Parent Reminder
At the junior high school level, every athlete will have the opportunity to participate in each game. Please note that playing time may vary and is not guaranteed to be equal. Playing time may be impacted or striped if an athlete does not meet team expectations regarding behavior, academics, or practice attendance.

We also ask that you kindly follow the 24-hour rule: please wait at least 24 hours before contacting a coach regarding concerns. Communication should take place through a scheduled meeting, phone call, or email—not during or immediately after a game or practice.

If there is a concern to discuss with the coach, the player should first approach the coach to schedule a Player/Coach conference where the issue can be discussed and possibly resolved.

If the issue is not resolved in a satisfactory manner, the following steps will be followed:

  1. If the Player/Coach conference does not resolve the issue, a parent should put their concerns in writing (email or letter) to the coach with an explanation of why the problem was not resolved. The coach will then set up a Player/Parent/Coach conference.

  2. If the Player/Parent/Coach conference does not resolve the issue, a parent may request a Player/Parent/Coach/Admin conference.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work together to provide a positive and successful experience for all of our student-athletes.

Athletes are asked to participate in all athletic fundraisers.

Girls Athletics typically has about 2-3 fundraisers each school year (one per semester).

Fundraisers help cover expenses for the following:

  • Equipment
  • Uniforms
  • Gear
  • End-of-Year Field Trip
  • End-of-Year Banquet

Students can sign up for Athletics during the designated class schedule registration period at the end of each school year with counselors. Information on registration will be provided through school announcements, newsletters, and the school website.

What is the eligibility criteria for participating in athletics?
Students must maintain a certain academic standard (no grades below 70) and have a physical examination/RankOne documents completed before participating. Attendance and behavior standards may also apply.

Once my student makes the program, what should they expect?

A DJHS athlete must present themselves at all times with respect for their teachers, adults, and coaches. They will be a role model to their peers in and out of the classroom, support their fellow teammates, and exude team spirit. A DJHS athlete must always remember that they are a student first and will be disciplined in their academics.

Yes, most sports teams have tryouts to assess skill levels and determine team placements. Students can sign up for tryouts during the registration period at the beginning of each season. Coaches will provide information on tryout dates and requirements as they approach.

What is the time commitment for a sport?

Time commitment varies by sport and level. Generally, practices are held after school several times a week, with games or meets scheduled during the season. Coaches will provide specific schedules.

- Athletic class period:

Uniforms must be purchased through the athletic program once the school year begins.

As a parent what will be needed from me?

Parents must ensure that their daughter is putting their role as a student first. Students who are failing any class will be put on academic leave from the team. Parents must also ensure that, if their student is an active member on the a team, they must be participating in all practices and games/meets. Parents are a student-athlete's biggest cheerleader and a team's biggest supporter. Please be an active member by staying up to date with communication and participating in fundraising events!

What safety measures are in place for student-athletes?

Safety is a top priority. Coaches are trained in first aid and CPR, and schools have protocols for managing injuries. Equipment is regularly inspected and maintained to ensure safety standards are met.

How are sports schedules communicated to parents and students?
Schedules are communicated through direct communications from coaches and through our SportsYou groups within the app. Any changes or updates will be promptly shared via these channels.

What should my child do if they are injured?
If an injury occurs, your child should notify their coach immediately. The school has an athletic trainer available for evaluation. Follow-up with a healthcare professional may be necessary.

How are teams selected for competitions?
Teams are selected based on skill level, performance during tryouts, and practice participation. Coaches aim to create teams that represent the school competitively.
