Welcome to the home of the 24-6A Lady Gators Basketball Program!

The Lady Gators are composed of female student-athletes in grades 9–12 who compete at the Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels. The basketball season begins in mid-October and concludes on March 1st.

Dickinson High School is proud to be home to the 2007 Lady Gators State Runner-Ups, the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 District Champions, numerous district superlative award winners, and many graduates who have gone on to play at the collegiate level.

Games and tournaments are held on Tuesday and Friday nights, with occasional weekend competitions. Practices take place daily, either before or after school. All home games are hosted at Dickinson High School.

To participate, athletes must have a current physical on file from a medical doctor and try out annually in October.

The Lady Gators are proudly led by 24-6A Coach of the Year, Toya Peterson.

Tryouts take place in October 2025. Students must be passing all classes and must have a physical on file with the trainer.

What does it take to join?

Pass all classes, have a physical on file with the trainer, attend tryouts and all practices, show great character, work hard daily.

When does the season start and end?

The season starts after tryouts in mid-October and the season ends in early March, games are played on Tuesday and Friday nights, and the season will consist of around 20-30 games and 2-3 weekend tournaments.

How many teams are in the Lady Gators Basketball Program?  How many players?

There is a freshman team with only freshman players.

There is a Junior Varsity and Varsity team with players in grades 9-12, each team will carry enough players to be competitive and deemed necessary by the coaches.

How are teams determined?

Teams are selected based on grades, talent, attendance, character, competitiveness, attitude, coachability, discipline, grades, and any roles deemed necessary.

Once my student makes the team, what should they expect?

To be held to a high standard, expect to be a role model, bring a positive vibe to the program, and graduate with a great experience

When are practices? Location?

Practices are before or after school depending on the level. Practices are located at Dickinson HS gym

Will transportation be provided?

A DISD school bus will transport teams to all UIL/district sanctioned games

Parents must provide transportation to all other non-sanctioned games/events (i.e. shootouts, fall leagues, summer leagues. team building, community service, etc.)

As a parent what will be needed from me?

Ensure your daughter is a great student, who works hard daily while competing at a high level.  Parents are also needed to be positive advocates for the program while promoting, marketing, and retaining parents alike

"If you are going to have an experience, let's make it enjoyable and worth it for everyone"

Are all activities, games/tournaments, and practices mandatory?

Nothing is mandatory, just like being in the program. Playing time is not mandatory as well. We do ask that all families make a commitment and dedicate all their efforts while participating in the Lady Gators Basketball program

What are some ways to be involved?

Attend and support our games, volunteer during Homecoming week, assist with selling items from the concessions during home games, purchase items from our fundraising events, purchase a sponsorship package and positively promote and market the Lady Gators every chance you have.

How can I get in touch with someone from the Lady Gators Basketball Program?

We encourage you to go to your student's coach with any questions. If you are a community supporter please contact Head Coach Toya Peterson via email at tpeterson@dickinsonisd.org.
