Dr. Rebecca Brown

Dr. Rebecca Brown has been an educator for over 28 years, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to excellence and innovation in education. She began her career as an ELAR/ESL teacher for over ten years in Aldine ISD. Throughout her professional journey, she has held various positions, each marked by notable achievements.

 

As a Literacy Skills Specialist, Dr. Brown implemented evidence-based literacy interventions that raised reading levels across her district. In her role as Curriculum Assistant Principal, she revamped the curriculum framework, leading to enhanced student engagement and achievement. Dr. Brown has served as a Middle School Principal and High School Principal, where she launched advanced placement courses and career and technical education pathways, resulting in increased college and career readiness among students.

 

In 2014, Dr. Brown transitioned to Houston ISD, where she served as School Support Officer and Chief of Schools. During her tenure, she spearheaded initiatives that closed achievement gaps and elevated school performance ratings. Later, as Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction in Spring Branch ISD, she led the district's curriculum overhaul, integrating technology and differentiated instruction to meet diverse student needs. Her career progression continued in Spring ISD as Assistant Superintendent of Schools, where she introduced data-driven strategies that improved instructional quality and student outcomes.

 

Most recently, Dr. Brown served as Deputy Superintendent of Academics in La Porte ISD. In this role, she championed innovative educational programs and fostered a culture of continuous improvement, positioning the district as a leader in academic excellence.

 

“I am dedicated to recognizing and embracing the unique qualities of Gator Nation and our small-town community," Dr. Brown emphasized. "My primary focus as Superintendent is to actively engage, attentively listen, and nurture meaningful relationships," she reiterated. "Approaching leadership with humility, I understand that each community has its own dynamics and aspirations. Just as every child is unique, so too is every district. Therefore, I am committed to tailoring our strategies to meet the specific needs and aspirations of our students, staff, and the Gator Nation community."

 

Reflecting on her commitment to students, Dr. Brown shared, "My passion lies in empowering every student to achieve their full potential. Through collaborative leadership, innovative programs, and an unwavering commitment to equity and excellence, I am dedicated to ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education that prepares them for success in college, career, and beyond."

 

Dr. Brown earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Houston and both her Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Prairie View A&M University. She resides with her husband, Dr. Ron Brown, who has held administrative roles at various higher education institutions across Texas. Their son, RJ, will be starting his freshman year at Dickinson High School this year. The family also includes two cherished rescue Siberian huskies.
