Process for currently eligible students

  • The Dickinson ISD Special Education Office maintains a database of students that attend a private/home school program.
  • Parents are contacted by letter at the beginning of each school year to ask if they would like to receive identified services for students who meet eligibility.
  • Parents can email the Coordinator or call 281-229-6094 indicating that they are interested in receiving services.
  • Parents are contacted to schedule an Individual Service Plan (ISP) meeting for students who are eligible for identified services. (Students who are enrolled in public schools in Texas have an ARD meeting; students in private/home school have an ISP meeting.)
  • Parents are notified to schedule a 3 year re-evaluation by the home campus Diagnostic Specialist and or Speech Pathologist to schedule a date for the re-evaluation.

Evaluation information

  • Students who attend private schools located within Dickinson ISD are eligible for referral, evaluation and determination of eligibility for special education regardless of the child's district of residence.
  • In Texas, home schools are considered private schools.
  • For school aged students presently attending a private school, parents can request an evaluation by contacting the Coordinator of Evaluation and Related Services in the Dickinson ISD Special Education Office.

Referral Process

  • For children under 5 (not Kindergarten age) attending a private school, parents can request an evaluation by contacting Kathy Linkey to be scheduled for a child find intake session.
  • The Coordinator of Evaluation and Related Services will provide the referral packet to the parent to be completed. Once completed, the request for special education evaluation is assigned to an Assessment Team Leader so that the parent can be contacted to start the evaluation process.
  • The evaluation will be completed within 45 days of initial parent consent.
  • The ARD/IEP meeting will be held within 30 days of completion of the evaluation and any services will be determined during that meeting.
