Project Protect Our Children Partners with Dickinson ISD

Bringing Human Trafficking Prevention Education to K-12 Students

DICKINSON ISD  — Dickinson ISD has partnered with Project Protect Our Children (PPOC), a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to preventing child sex trafficking, exploitation, and abuse…before it begins!

PPOC is the first nonprofit to become a licensed organization with certified instructors to facilitate implementation of the PROTECT© Program. PROTECT is a prevention education program that provides social and emotional learning opportunities to better equip students with knowledge that will help them to enhance their personal boundaries, build resilience, and increase protective skills.  The K-12 curriculum is research-based, age-appropriate, survivor-informed, and TEKS-aligned.

Dickinson ISD is the first district in the Greater Houston Area to bring this Human Trafficking Prevention Education K-12 Curriculum to their students with Project Protect Our Children!

Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing risks to our students and must be addressed. In fact, Texas law requires schools to address human trafficking in policies and trainings. The Texas Education Code and recent updates to the Texas Administrative Code also require districts to build student awareness and provide child abuse anti-victimization programs in elementary and secondary schools consisting of age-appropriate, researched-base prevention designed to promote self-protection and prevent sexual abuse and trafficking.

Through Dickinson ISD’s partnership with PPOC, a district-wide human trafficking reporting protocol has been developed. PPOC has trained numerous Dickinson ISD counselors, teachers, administrators, and school staff on how to identify and report suspected human trafficking and is scheduled to bring this life-saving curriculum to approximately 4,400 students this school year alone!

Dickinson ISD is truly on the forefront of the fight against human trafficking and has taken the necessary steps to engage, educate, and empower their students and school community to stay safe and PROTECTed!
