District Technology Update - BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Network Disabled
08/15/2022

Dickinson ISD Families:

As the climate of Internet security changes, DISD continues our work to provide the best data security for our students, staff, and families. With the purchase of student mobile devices utilizing federal ESSER funds and continual upgrades to the district network infrastructure and cyber security, the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Wireless Network has been disabled. These changes were tested at DHS in late spring of 2022, and teachers found that students were more focused on instruction and learning during the school day. Therefore, DISD has moved forward with disabling this network for all personally owned student devices, and they will not be allowed on the DISD Network. This will not affect cellular service for student cell phones.

Students will use DISD devices (Chromebooks/laptops) on the DISD network.  Our network scans our devices regularly; we are still using Gaggle, and we have added software to increase cyber security protection.  We do not have the ability to scan personal devices, so students will not be able to use a personal Chromebook/laptop/Ipad brought to school from home.  Students will still be able to use their personal cell phones according to campus cell phone guidance.
