Academic Competitions

Robotics (Grades 4-8)

Robotics is available to students in grade 4th - 8th as a club on their campuses. Students in 4th & 5th grade use the VEX IQ platform while 6th - 8th grade use the VEX V5 platform.

Teams follow a full engineering cycle—designing, testing, programming, and iterating their robots across multiple practice rounds. They often document progress in engineering notebooks and refine designs through team discussions.

Chess (Grades 4-12)
A chess club is much more than just games—it’s a welcoming space where students of all skill levels come together to play, learn, compete, and build friendships through the shared “language” of chess. Chess clubs are available to students in grades 4th -8th.
UIL A+ (Grades 2-8)
A+ Academics includes 10 different events for grades 2-8. These events span the curriculum - they are designed to complement and expand upon what students learn in the classroom, both through learning specific subject knowledge, and through learning skills that are valuable in many disciplines. Approximately 3,000 Texas schools participate in A+ Academics, competing in more than 400 district meets each year.
Quiz Bowl (Grades 6-8)

Students in grades 6th – 8th participate, representing their school as part of after-school clubs or teams.

Quiz Bowl is a fast-paced, team-based academic competition where students buzz in to answer questions across a wide range of subjects. It’s like a game show that rewards knowledge, quick thinking, and teamwork.

Academic Decathlon         (Grades 9-12)

The Texas Academic Decathlon is a prestigious statewide competition that challenges high school students through ten academic events ranging from written exams to speeches, promoting teamwork, academic mastery, and personal growth.

Participants tackle seven objective tests: literature, economics, math, science, social science, art, and music. Plus three subjective components: essay, interview, and speech. A signature Super Quiz relay crowns the competition with an exciting group showdown.

Robotics (Grades 9-12)

Our high school robotics club empowers students to explore STEM through hands-on robotics using the VEX V5 platform where they will build, program, and compete with their custom robots.

Teams follow a full engineering cycle—designing, testing, programming, and iterating their robots across multiple practice rounds. They often document progress in engineering notebooks and refine designs through team discussions.
