Dickinson Independent School District and Dickinson High School are proud to partner with Higher Up Texas for our seventh school year, providing selected senior-level classes with life skills that will better prepare them for post-graduation and beyond.
This week in the Higher Up Texas classes, students focused on Professional Introductions and Personal Presentation.
Students learned the importance of preparing in advance, researching who they are speaking with, and presenting themselves with confidence. They also covered how to go beyond just a professional title, make introductions relevant to the situation, and follow through with a thank-you. These skills help build rapport, establish credibility, and create meaningful connections.
The lesson also highlighted how appearance, body language, and vocal tone shape how others perceive you. Students explored the differences between business professional and business casual attire, as well as the impact of positive body language, active listening, and enthusiasm. They were reminded that “it’s not what you say, it’s what they remember.”
Through these lessons, Gator seniors are gaining practical tools in professionalism, confidence, and communication that will serve them in college, careers, and beyond.
A special thank-you to Dickinson High School Higher Up Texas Program Facilitator Rey DeLeon and to local business professional Bryan Bolton, President/CEO of the League City Regional Chamber of Commerce. Bryan is responsible for leading the organization toward its mission, goals, and objectives, and we are grateful for his time presenting these valuable topics to our Gators.
