Three former DHS athletes inducted into Hall of Honor

Three former Dickinson High School athletes were recognized during the football game on November 8 against Deer Park as new inductees to the DHS Hall of Honor. They include Brianna Hypolite, Class of 2008 for basketball; Rotnei Anderson, Class of 1984 for football; and Bill Zimmerman, Class of 1989 for basketball. They will also be honored in May 2025 at the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation Gala for their achievements. The Hall of Honor recipients for 2024-2025 include:

Brianna Hypolite Class of 2008, Basketball

  • 4 Year Letterman
  • 4 Year 1st Team All District
  • 2X Galveston County Player of the Year
  • 2007 Houston Chronicle Player of the Year
  • 2007 2nd Team All State
  • 2008 1st Team All State
  • 2X All Greater-Houston 1st team
  • 2008 Texas 4-A Player of the Year National Honor Society Secretary
  • 2007 and 2008 All-State Academic
  • Rice University athletic scholarship, All Conference, 2X All tournament awards
  • Professional career in Australia, 2013 Waratah State League Most Valuable Player

Since getting her Bachelors degree from Rice University she also has her Master of Arts in Curriculum Instruction and Design from the University of Denver as well as her Associates of Arts and Science, Computer Science from the University of St. Thomas. Brianna is currently an educator and coach of women’s basketball in Dickinson ISD. She brings with her a strong talent and was one of the most recruited players in the state of Texas.

 

Rotnei Anderson, Class of 1984, Football

  • 1982 All-District Cornerback Honorable Mention
  • 1983 2nd team All-State defensive back, 1st Team All-greater Houston 5A Defensive Back, 1st Team All-District Cornerback, 2nd Team All-District Running back.
  • 1983 Texas Blue Chip Defensive Back
  • Letter in football and basketball 3 years.
  • University of Oklahoma athletic scholarship for football.

At the University of Oklahoma, Rotnei was a member of the 1985 National Championship Team as well as the 1985, 1986 and 1987 Big 8 Conference championship teams. Rotnei was on the Nov. 1987 cover of Sports Illustrated magazine. After graduating from University of Oklahoma and signing with the Indianapolis Colts, Rotnei returned to coach at Dickinson High School and as a community service, he started a Dickinson youth basketball league to share his love of basketball with local youth.

 

Bill Zimmerman, Class of 1989, Basketball

  • 3-year varsity starter
  • 1987, 1988 and 1989 All-District
  • 1987 East Zone 1st Team All District
  • 1989 1st Team All-District
  • 1988 and 1989 Gator MVP
  • 1989 2nd team All-State
  • 1989 1st Team All-Region
  • 1989 District MVP
  • Two All-Tournament selections
  • Blue Chip All American
  • 1989 Nominee for McDonald's All-American with a career high 1,782 points and 650 career rebounds. He holds the DHS record for most points in one season with 853 points in 1989.

Known as “The Z-Man”, he was a member of the National Honor Society, he was the DHS mascot “Big Al” and a 1988 Regional track qualifier. Bill attended Columbia University on scholarship and received his degree in Education from St. Leo University. After college, for more than 25 years, Bill was a coach for various sports in the Amateur Athletic Union; he was instrumental in raising over $100,000.00 for Special Olympics, he was co-owner of College Recruiting Co. for 15 years and placed more than 1,000 student athletes into college on scholarship with 50 of those going on to the NBA, NFL and MLB. Bill is currently an employee of the United States Postal Service.
