At the time of registration, and on an annual basis thereafter, the parent, guardian, or other person
having lawful control of the student under order of a court must
present proof of residency in the District as required by law.
Acceptable documentation that may be used to verify residency
These documents must be in the name of the parent, guardian, or other person having lawful control of the student.
For a student living separate and apart from his or her parent,
guardian, or other person having lawful control under order of a
court, the adult District resident with whom the student resides
must provide proof of residency in the same manner as a parent.
For a nonresident student whose resident grandparent provides a
substantial amount of before/after-school care, the grandparent must provide proof of residency in the same manner as a parent.
The District will investigate stated
residency as necessary.
In accordance with law, the District may make reasonable inquiries
to determine whether the student is a resident of the District, including when a document submitted for purposes of proving residency is not in the name of the adult who is enrolling the student.
Based on an individual’s circumstance, the District may grant exceptions to the requirement to produce a document listed above.
When required by law, the District will waive the requirement to
prove residency in the District boundaries. [See Board Policy FD(LEGAL) and FD(LOCAL)]
In the event a parent, guardian, or other person having lawful control of the student is unable to provide a proof of residency in their own name, they may be able to establish residency by completing an affidavit.
Please be advised all affidavits are:
Forms can be picked up at any campus or found online at http://www.dickinsonisd.org/page/pi.Affidavits . The completed original affidavit including all attachments must be returned to the campus for
review. If the packet is complete the student will be able to start school under a provisional
enrollment. The affidavit is not approved until a home visit is completed and signed by someone
from the Superintendent’s Office.
NOTE: No photo copying or notarizing of documents will be made on location.
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your child's campus to speak with the registrar/data clerk.
If you no longer require a residency affidavit, please deliver a copy of the required proof of residency document (mortgage, lease, tax statement, or utility bill in your name) to the school so the student’s records can be updated accordingly.
This form is used if the Parent does not have a lease or mortgage statement in their name and resides with someone in the Dickinson ISD attendance zone.
The attachments required along with the completed affidavit are as follows:
The Grandparent Affidavit may be used only if the Parent lives outside the DISD attendance zone and the Grandparent live within the DISD attendance zone.
This agreement is used if the parent is giving education rights to a person other than the parent (i.e. family, friend or neighbor), due to the student residing with someone other than a parent.
*This agreement does not take away from the parental rights in any way, but only grants educational rights to the guardian and gives the campus permission to discuss the student with the guardian.
