Dickinson Community Update : Galveston County JJAEP
08/19/2026

Dear Dickinson ISD Community,

We want to provide important clarification regarding Dickinson ISD’s role in the Galveston County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) and ensure our community has an accurate understanding of this partnership.

The Galveston County JJAEP is operated by Galveston County and serves eligible students from school districts throughout Galveston County. It is not a Dickinson ISD program, nor is it a school exclusively for Dickinson ISD students.

Dickinson ISD serves as the educational partnerfor the program. In this role, DISD employs the teachers and educational administrators who provide instruction and help ensure the educational requirements and academic needs of students placed in the JJAEP are met. The students served may come from participating school districts and communities across Galveston County—not just Dickinson ISD.

This distinction is important. Galveston County operates the JJAEP; Dickinson ISD provides the educational services within the program. Our partnership helps ensure that students continue to receive appropriate educational services while participating in the program.

As a public school district, Dickinson ISD takes seriously its responsibility to serve students and to work collaboratively with Galveston County and our neighboring school districts. Regardless of a student’s circumstances or home district, access to education remains important, and our role is to ensure students have opportunities to continue learning and moving forward academically.

We appreciate the opportunity to clarify Dickinson ISD’s role and remain committed to transparency with our families, staff and community.
