DHS Exchange Student Advances to Regionals in Tennis Tournament
05/09/2025

Dickinson High School is celebrating a remarkable athletic achievement by one of its own: Pablo De Arroita Fernandez, a foreign exchange student from Spain, has secured second place in the district tennis tournament—earning a spot at regionals. This marks the first time in several years that a Dickinson High School student has advanced this far in tennis.

Pablo, who has been playing tennis since the age of 10, has made an impressive impact during his time at DHS. In addition to tennis, he’s also a member of the school’s soccer team, balancing academics, athletics, and a new cultural experience with grace and enthusiasm.

Pablo attributes much of his positive experience in the U.S. to his host family. “They help me always and support me always, and whenever they can, they come watch my games,” he shared. “They really do care about me.”

Paul Trahan, a member of Pablo's host family, says it's been a true privilege to welcome him into their home. "Pablo is an exceptional man with a promising future," he said. "His commitment to both athletics and academics is admirable, and he consistently demonstrates dedication and integrity in all that he does. We're really going to miss him in our home when he heads back to Spain at the end of the month."

When asked what advice he would give to other foreign exchange students, Pablo encourages them to make the most of the experience. “Have fun every day and take advantage of the facilities they have here that your country may not have,” he said.

Dickinson ISD is proud to support programs that foster cultural exchange and personal growth, and Pablo’s story is a shining example of the opportunities that come with welcoming students from around the world.
