Dickinson ISD provides many opportunities for staff development utiliziing the skills and expertise of District staff and by taking advantage of training offered by the Region 4 Service Center, local universities including the University of Houston Clear Lake, and the
Consortium for Advancement of Professional Excellence (CAPE) which is a cooperative efrfort of thirteen local school districts. DISD applied for and received a waiver which allowed the District to reduce the instructional calendar by three days. These three days are student holidays which teachers also take off as paid days in trade for threee days of weekend or summer training that pertains to their campus improvement plan.
Local staff development has recently included gifted/talented and dyslexia training. Also, our middle school campus and three of our elementary campuses were chosen to participate in the Building Inclusive Schools Initiative in which Region 4 has provided extensive training for teachers to better assist our special needs students. DISD will continue to make staff development, including the analysis of current staff development efforts, priority objectives for the District.
