To encourage each other to reach our greatest potential by attaining and upholding our goals and traditions.
The Dickinson band program has long been committed to excellence. Since 1973, the program has had an average of 91% division one ratings in solo competitions. The band has won the University of Houston Solo & Ensemble Contest 16 out of 18 times, is a consistent UIL Sweepstakes winner, and has been named Best in Class in competitions in Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Illinois, California, Colorado, and Texas.
In marching, the band has won Best in Class at Bands of America Southwest Regional Competition in 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, and 1997. The band was named Texas Class 4A State Champions in 1986, 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1993 all under the direction of Mr. Donnie Owens and Mr. John Gossett. The Dickinson High School Symphonic Band was named the TMEA Class 4A Honor Band in 1986 and 1994. McAdams Junior High School, which feeds Dickinson High School, was named Honor Band of Texas in 1980 and 1995 under the direction of Mr. Wade McDonald. The band consistently ranks in the top five in Texas and was one of the two schools in the United States that was awarded the prestigious Sudler Cup in 1993.
The high school band includes two concert bands, Symphonic and Concert, which comprise the marching band. Among the additional classes offered are color guard, music theory I and II, and instrumental ensemble. All the band directors in the district work with students from sixth grade up, and the successes of the Dickinson Bands are the result of their strong team approach to music instruction.
The strength of the program lies in the high quality of the students, and active band booster organization, a faculty committed to quality and the support of administrators, the Board of Education, and the community at large.
