Gifted and Talented Program

Dickinson ISD’s Gifted and Talented Program serves approximately 3-5% of the students in the district.  These students are able to perform academically several levels above their enrolled grade level, are able to work independently on projects, and are motivated to learn at advanced levels.

Kindergarten gifted students are identified each year by March 1.  Teachers who have specialized GT training serve these students in their regular classes.

GT identified students in grades 1-6 are served in designated cluster classes by teachers with thirty-hours of training in gifted education.  In addition, gifted elementary students are pulled out once a week to work with other gifted students on enrichment activities in the four core curriculum areas.

Identified students in grades 7-12 are served in specific content areas by the Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement courses.

Nomination and selection periods for the DISD Gifted Program:

  • September/October – Students new to Dickinson ISD
  • November to February – Kindergarten students
  • February to May – Current DISD students not tested that year
