Dickinson ISD 2020 School Re-Entry Plan (Updated July 23, 2020)
07/23/2020

Dear Gator Family,

The prevalence of the COVID-19 virus in our area continues to remain at a high level.  The next few weeks are crucial, and our local health authorities have recommended we delay the return of our students for Face-to-Face Instruction for a few more weeks.  Provided below is the revised plan for the re-entry of our students.

School will begin for students in Dickinson ISD on Monday, August 24. The first three weeks, Aug. 24-Sept. 11, will be Remote Instruction. Students will learn online from home, and teachers will provide instruction via Google Classroom and other technology resources from their classrooms.

During the first three weeks, the hours of operation at all campuses will be 8:00-4:00. Daily schedules for Remote Instruction will be provided to students after the registration process is completed and before the first day of school begins. Additional information about campus procedures will be provided to parents by campus principals in August.

Beginning Monday, August 31, campuses will welcome Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students who have selected Face-to-Face Instruction as the learning platform, as well as students in some special programs (ECSE, TIDES, SAILS, ABCD, WAVE and SEALS). The health and safety measures outlined in the DISD Re-Entry Plan will be required for all staff, students, and visitors.

Monday, September 14, regular campus operating hours will resume, and all students who selected Face-to-Face Instruction will begin on campus. The health and safety measures outlined in the DISD Re-Entry Plan will be required for all staff, students, and visitors.

Registration in Dickinson ISD will begin, Monday, Aug. 3. Parents of returning students will need to complete the online registration process and commit to Face-to-Face Instruction or Remote Instruction by August 14. Parents of students new to Dickinson ISD will need to call the campus the student is zoned to attend to schedule an appointment for registration. All registration information for new and returning students is posted on the Dickinson ISD website.

Access to the internet and a device (laptop, desktop computer, iPad or Chromebook) is necessary for effective Remote Instruction. If you need assistance with technology, please complete the Technology Survey that is in Skyward by
July 27.

Prior to September 14, we will reassess conditions, and we will communicate with you if our plans need to be updated for the safe return of our students to Face-to-Face Instruction in Dickinson ISD. Thank you for your patience as we adjust our Re-Entry Plan using guidance from the Galveston County Health District, UTMB medical authorities, and the Texas Education Agency.

With gratitude,

Carla Voelkel

Superintendent
