Why choose STEM?
The DISD Advanced STEM Program is designed to meet the needs of advanced students and students ready for advanced curriculum. Offering advanced academics and acceleration in mathematics and science for 5th - 8th graders. The STEM Academy students must have strong math/science and language arts skills. Differentiated, interdisciplinary instruction in language arts, science, social studies, and mathematics are offered by highly trained teachers and staff in a learning community that focuses on the nature and needs of all learners.
In STEM, students have the opportunity to interact with their intellectual peers and participate in fine arts, athletics and other student activities. Our program focuses on student strengths and the nature and needs of our identified student population, as well as students that are ready to challenge their learning. STEM student are provided the environment necessary to practice problem solving, discovery, creativity, exploratory learning, teamwork, leadership skills, and communication skills. The unique instructional design of STEM is intended to address the academic, social and emotional needs of all identified students in Dickinson ISD. STEM also helps students to understand themselves and assists them in the development of social relationships.
