Middle School Art
Mission Statement
Students that are going to be in the 5th and 6th grade can take art at either Barber Middle School or Dunbar Middle School.

Fifth and sixth grade art students are encouraged to explore, wonder, ask questions, think divergently, and step out of their comfort zones. A variety of media is introduced so students can grow artistically. The art elements and principles are taught and utilized in assignments that use new and unique mediums or styles.

Art prompts critical thinking and connects to every subject. Because of this, students are able to make various connections as they experience the creative process. The TEKS are met as students’ perception is heightened, knowledge of the history of cultures and artists is introduced and extended, creative expressions experienced, and various means of evaluating their own artwork explored.

Students are encouraged to participate in local, state and national art competitions. Their work is displayed in the art room, school building and the DISD Administration building. There is also opportunities to help with local craft fairs, district functions, and open house art gallery shows.
