Overview/General Course Description
Choir students will develop their singing skills, music reading skills, and listening habits. A great deal of class time is spent on singing and hearing intervals, learning solfege pitches with their corresponding hand-signs, performance standards, and vocal production skills such as posture, correct breathing, and the formation of pure vowel sounds. These skills learned in class will be demonstrated in performances throughout the school year.
Choir students will have opportunities to compete in individual events such as Region auditions and Solo and Ensemble Contest, as well as group performances that include holiday concerts, U.I.L. Concert/Sight-Reading Contest, and a Pop Show. It is intended that students in choir will develop their singing talents, become knowledgeable musicians, and become responsible, dedicated and caring members of the community.
