Mrs. Laurel Powell

This is Mrs. Powell’s 21st year teaching at DHS.  Throughout her teaching career she has taught Theatre Arts 1-4, Theatre Production 1-4, Technical Theatre, and the Special Programs Theatre class. As well as teaching, Mrs. Powell has directed a variety of shows including numerous award winning One Act Plays that have been seen at the 4A, 5A, and 6A UIL Area and Region Level. As well as directing UIL One Act Play, she is also the UIL Prose and Poetry coach.  In 2009-2010, she was named DISD Secondary Teacher of the Year, representing Dickinson at the Region IV level.  She is involved with International Thespian Society, TETA, Alpha Psi Omega, Phi Mu and Southwest Theatre Association. She holds a BA from Lyon College and a MA from the University of Houston.  As well as teaching, Mrs. Powell can be seen on stage & directing in area Houston and Galveston Theatres where she also performs. Remember “Make Magic!” Mrs. Powell is married and has two kiddos!

Mrs. Marisa Hataway

This is Mrs. Hataway’s 14th year teaching Theatre Arts.  Before teaching at DHS, she was a 5th-6th grade Theatre Arts teacher at Barber Middle School.  Along with teaching middle school theatre, she has directed numerous 30 minute plays.  Mrs. Hataway now teaches the Theatre Arts 1 classes, Technical Theatre classes & the Musical Theatre class at DHS.  Mrs. Hataway has been active with the DHS Theatre Department since she was in high school.  Graduating from Dickinson, she served as the President, Vice-President, and Treasurer of the drama department.  For the past ten years, Mrs. Hataway has been the resident photographer for the department taking headshots, show shots, and publicity shots. She is a member of The International Thespian Society, TETA, Phi Mu and she served on the Campus Improvement Committee at Barber Middle School from 2006-2010.  She holds a BA from Lyon College in Batesville, AR. Mrs. Hataway is married and has boy/girl twins.  They will be a two years old in November!

Mr. Morgan Gardiner


Mr. Gardiner graduated high school in 2007 from Cypress Falls High School in Cy Fair ISD.  He then attended Lone Star College where he then transferred to Texas State, graduating in 2012, and receiving his Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Theatre.  He then moved to San Antonio where he taught technical theatre and brought a campus to first in its district in three years.  He then moved back to Houston, to teach, and then found himself at Dickinson a year later.  He has received many accolades including Outstanding Teacher for Katy ISD, 4 Tommy Tune nominations and has advanced numerous times in UIL One Act Play.  He lives with his spouse, and their four pets.
