Marvin Welch is entering his thirteenth year of coaching and his eighth year as part of the Dickinson High School staff, where he formerly served as head coach of the women’s varsity track and field team and running back coach of varsity football. Welch has twelve years of teaching experience and is certified in Health and Physical Education.

In 1998, Welch entered the National Football League as a running back for the St. Louis Rams. Two years later, he signed with Minnesota Vikings. Welch has been in the sports performance and fitness industry for more than 15 years. He is certified as a USA Weightlifting Coach through the USA Weightlifting Association, a personal trainer by the National Institute of Preventive Medicine, and a USA Track & Field Level II Coach.

Welch received a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy from Henderson State University. He has a Master of Science in Fitness and Human Performance (Exercise Science) and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston – Clear Lake (UHCL). While attending UHCL, Welch was a co-author of an award-winning presentation on the Reactive Strength Index associated with performance in maximum strength and power tasks. The study was presented in November 2012 to the National Center for Human Performance in Houston, TX.

Welch is a native of Galveston, Texas and lives with his wife Carmen, two sons Christopher, Christian and daughter Christina.
